Botox and wrinkles treatment

Botulinum toxin is an active ingredient which blocks the action of the neurotransmitter responsible for muscle contraction. It is this very contraction that causes our facial wrinkles.

Its use can reduce both horizontal and vertical wrinkles located on the forehead and eyebrows. It also helps smooth skin relief and getting a rejuvenating effect of the face.

Botox is particularly effective on the forehead wrinkles (1), on wrinkles called "frown lines" between eyebrows (2), as well as on those of "crow's feet" around the eyes and on dark circles (3).
It is indicated both for women and for men.

What are the motivations for a Botox injection ?

Wrinkles are natural but mark the passing of time and an aging skin.
Today, those who worry about their first wrinkles are able to effectively make them disappear.
Botox can be used as cure on already wrinkled skin but also in preventive treatment of young and supple skin.

How is the treatment ?

Your surgeon injects you 5 to 7 points of botulinum toxin in the treatment area using a fine needle. This injection is virtually painless.
Then a cold pack is applied to your face and you make some contraction exercises to "fix" the product. The resumption of normal activities is possible the same day.

+ What is the type of anesthesia ?

No anesthesia is useful.

+ How long is the treatment ?

It takes a few minutes.

What is the expected result ? Is It immediate ? Permanent ?

The result consists in an effective reduction of wrinkles.
It begins to appear around the third day but stabilizes within 15 days.
This result is not definitive. It is recommended to come back every six months, according to the reappearance of the wrinkle. Beyond three years, the time between two injections may increase from six to twelve months.

What are the contraindications to treatment ?

Botulinum toxin is contraindicated for :

  • certain neuromuscular diseases like myasthenia gravis,
  • Pregnancy and lactation,
  • Taking certain medications (antibiotics, anticoagulants...)

What are the possible complications ?

They are very rare and always reversible, that is to say that there is no possible after-effect with botulinum toxin. During your consultations with your surgeon all the possible complications will be detailed to you.
To inform you previously, here are the possible risks:

  • Nausea, dizziness,
  • Allergic reaction : skin rash, hives, systemic allergic reaction,
  • Fatigue, fever, flu syndrome,
  • Dry skin or mouth.

This is a very interesting alternative, which may be associated safely with a complementary procedure such as hyaluronic acid injections, intense pulsed light or peeling.

Botox and excessive sweating

Botulinum toxin is also extremely effective against perspiration or excessive sweating of the armpits, which can be responsible for a major discomfort.

It is indicated for both women and men.
Botox works by blocking locally the sympathetic nervous system that stimulates the secretion of sweat. This is a revolution in the treatment of underarm excessive sweating.

How is the treatment ?

Before the injections, your surgeon will apply an iodine solution and starch, which will color blue the areas that sweat the most.
He generally gives 10 injections per armpit.
The resumption of normal activities is possible the same day.

What is the expected result ? Is It immediate ? Permanent ?

The result consists in a significant reduction of armpit sweating.
It begins to appear around the third day but stabilizes within 15 days.
This result is not definitive. It can last between 6 months and 1 year, but the re-injection is possible after effects of Botox disappear.
